Are the "DBC Core Members" the new deaf gods or deaf culture apostles?

I had an interesting conversation late last night with someone who related herself as a 'deaf culture soldier'. I was chastised plenty for putting DBC (Deaf Bilingual Coalition) down in my latest vlog. She went on to state that our agency is not supported by the DBC core members and we shouldn't be doing our ASL meetups because it's not authorized by the DBC core members.

This really rattled the end of my long day yesterday.

So is it going to be 'DBC Core Members begets this' and 'DBC Core Members begets that'? Are we really going to be giving them this kind of power? I think not. To give them this kind of power would create a dangerous level of extremism in the deaf community. Were not going to be giving the DBC core members the doctrinal leadership status either.

The Midwest Airlines Center management could erect barriers to prevent any interactivity much less a confrontation between AG Bell and DBC in response to DBC's militancy. The police may deny permit, the walkway between Hyatt and MAC could be closed.

What's next? The divisive 'disenrollments' from the deaf community or from deafhood? Is deafhood turning the deaf community into FLDS like heretics?

It's really up to the deaf community to decide who to follow but to be giving the DBC core members too much power like this would be extremely dangerous.

  1. This is ridiculous. The DBC core members would never endorse what your friend describes. Maybe that person took it upon herself to make assumptions, but that did NOT come from the DBC core members. I strongly suggest that you do some checking before you jump to conclusions and spew this kind of stuff out into cyberspace. Make sure your accusations are accurate before blogging/vlogging.

  2. Richard,

    I thought I'd help you with a few things;

The core members of the DBC are leaders who stand for what they believe in based on personal experience, observations, and community involvement.

If it were not for these good people, more parents and deaf children would be left in the dark and disconnected from the blessing of being happy with who they are and how they communicate.

    What do you believe in?

How do you help deaf children gain access to the truth of their being?

I'm proud of the DBC, in what they do, what they believe, and I have no shame in saying that.

Children can be happy if they and their parents are given access to a lifetime of open communication and a sense of belonging.

Signed Languages, ASL in America and Canada, provides to them with the recognition and access they are entitled to know and have.

One question you need to ask yourself with an open heart and mind:

    Are you happy?

If you are, please be quiet.
If not, ask yourself why and learn the following words before you spit on something that is good and genuine.

Coalition: a: the act of coalescing : union, b: a body formed by the coalescing of originally distinct elements : combination.

    Coalesce: to grow together.

Leaders are needed and thats just what the core members are.

Leaders who work together to educate others about the importance of recognizing deaf children for who they are and empowering them to become leaders of the future.

You know very well what is effective because you ended up learning to sign.

Why is that? I can only wonder.

Now, below are some other words you could use knowing:

Progressive: 1 a : of, relating to, or characterized by progress b: making use of or interested in new ideas, findings, or opportunities c: of, relating to, or constituting an educational theory marked by emphasis on the individual child, informality of classroom procedure, and encouragement of self-expression
2: of, relating to, or characterized by progression
3: moving forward or onward : advancing

Proactive: 1 : relating to, caused by, or being interference between previous learning and the recall or performance of later learning
2 : acting in anticipation of future problems, needs, or changes.

Deaf children have the right to identity and a visual language.

I write this not out of malice or hatred but mere compassion for I sense that I know what you struggle with.

Please think and feel things out before you spit on others.

    Love Always,
    Jeff

  3. OCDA is supported by the government. DBC is supported by the hard-working members. Who's the thief or robber? YOU. YOU steal your clients' money.

  5. Hey Richard,
I think it's wrong to judge a group without being involved in that group. For example, there's been a big backlash against Jeremiah Wright based on a few of his comments that were taken out of context and shown repeatedly. Most of the commentators do not listen to the entirety of his speeches and do not take into account the context of black history and the role of the black church. It's the same for the Deaf. Hearing people and those bigots like you Richard that are biased against ASL and Deaf culture do not take into account the feelings and the experiences of Deaf people. White people are watching Jeremiah Wright and are outraged by his comments because they've never experienced what it's like to be a black person in America. Hearing people dismiss the feelings of Deaf people because they've never experienced what it's like to be shoved aside because they don't speak English and can't hear. It's a shame that you are so close-minded.
I really kiss fist DEAF CULTURE and ASL. Sorry,I think that you are sicko.
    Thanks,
    Bobby Lopez

  6. I wish future deaf generations not go through what I gone through. My actions, since it's personal, fully fits in with the society's evolution of the deaf community.

  7. Richard,

I understand that you don't want children to go through what you did.

Would you mind finding one or two words used to describe what you went through, write it down on a piece of paper, and consider what kind of solution would best prevent kids from experiencing that?

It's all about having a postive dialogue with the community even when you've had negative experiences.

In math, a negative times a negative might result in a positive but it doesn't work that way with human nature.

A negative only begets another negative and that becomes a tenfold negative.

Not the best thing to do.

If you are very angry or resentful about what you went through,.. find a postive way to deal with it instead of wanting to find someone to hold responsible for it.

    For me,..writing does wonders.
Maybe you can find your niche through these considerations.

    Remember,..
    Positive Reinforcement.
    CHAMP!

Try it sometime,.. you'd be surprised.

    Yours,
    Jeff

  8. You are jealous that DBC become very successful organization. You are a LOSSER!

  9. The DBC is a gang of bullies and thugs and the is concurred by major deaf organizations.

    Jeffrey,

The 2 words will be Scourge and Harassment. And the math you're talking about don't work that way in the deaf advocacy game.

  10. That's the problem with you,..it's a all a game.

    I'll say no more.

  11. The way I play the deaf advocacy game is the winning way anyways. Our 990 numbers show it. It's not a problem at all, it's a winning strategy in the seas of deaf evolution.

You need to scrape the ASL barnacles of the past off your ship's hull to stay in course with the deaf evolution.
