Notice Of Housing Availability

{EAV_BLOG_VER:8b150ae7d6b02471}

The Orange County Deaf Advocacy Center announces the following housing shares
available for temporary or long term residency. These are in two apartments in
Santa Ana, California. Apartments are privately owned and do not belong to
Orange County Deaf Advocacy Center. Location is close to bus routes, stores,
supermarkets, and food bank.

We have a 10' by 12' private partition available starting June 1, 2011. Rent is
$400 a month and that includes all utilities. Minimum income is $700 a month.
Has room for some furniture and possessions. Must use storage facility for
extra furniture, extra clothing, and extra possessions. This one is in the
apartment designed for independent individuals.

We might have a 7' by 11' semi private partition available in August or
September for people that may need assistance in living. Rent for this
partition is based on person's abilities and starts at $350.00 per month and
that includes all utilities. Must use storage facility for extra furniture,
extra clothing, and extra possessions. This is in a different apartment in the
same complex as the partition listed above.

We accept people on SSI and SSDI. No deposit needed. Must have, or have proof
of possession of, first month's rent on interview appointment. We wont accept
drinkers, druggies, and drama-mongers. Recovering addicts accepted. This is a
very quiet peaceful household inside a quiet complex. Service animals ok. If
bringing a car, tough luck because of nighttime parking restrictions. We
provide transportation assistance. Total move in amount must be paid in before
allowed to move in.

All of our residents are exposed to our award winning Enableworks program that
gives learning and a hands on experience on opportunities to acquire employable
skills. Our agency has plenty of volunteering opportunities for our residents
and adds to the positive experience of living in our housing program.

We take anyone regardless who can afford the rates, however, the majority of our
residents are those with hearing and speech disabilities and we take into
serious consideration the prospective resident's ability to communicate with the
rest of the people in the two households.

Please contact Richard Roehm or Beth Koenig by reply mail.

Orange County Deaf Advocacy Center Newsletter - May 28, 2011

Greetings everyone,

I want to start this newsletter by thanking Communities Actively Living
Independent & Free's (CALIF) for 'airing' our last newsletter on their blog
site. Its a very positive gesture and this is the thing that opens up
opportunities for collaborating with different disability advocacy
organizations.

Great news comes from Virginia as Virginia's Governor Bob McDonnell signed a
bill stating that American Sign Language will be considered a foreign language
and will have the same weight as any other foreign language course taught in
schools. I had been following this piece of legislation from the start.

Another place that's got my eyes on is in Alabama whereas the state legislature
have the shamelessness to take funds earmarked for people with disabilities.
They introduced a bill to raid the Dual Party Relay System funds to fix their
budget problems.

The deaf community received yet another demoralizing assault coming from the
very country that delivered the first major worldwide assault on the deaf
community in 1880. The Italian legislature has been considering a bill that
would reduce the status of the Italian Sign Language (Lingua dei Segni Italiana,
or LIS) from an officially recognized language, LIS, to something meaning
"Lingustical Guestres and Mime" (LMG). The change would have huge economic
implications upon the programs that utilize LIS. This has sparked protests at
numerous Italian embassies all over the world. In comparison, whats happening
to the Italian Sign Language would be similar to seeing the political dimension
of American Sign Language be reduced to something like 'American Visual
Communication'.

Next weekend we have a foodstand fundraiser at the worlds largest chili cookoff;
http://www.tustinchilicookoff.com/

And finally, we are almost done putting together a very resourceful booth to be
at the Orange County Fair this summer and I will need your help in keeping our
ebay store up and running while the fair is on and the best way you can help me
out is a small $700 donation to hire someone to man the ebay store while we're
all at the fairgrounds.

to raise him in the hearing world, and it has turned out well -- thanks to his

Orange County Deaf Advocacy Center Newsletter - May 21, 2011

Orange County Deaf Advocacy Center Newsletter - May 21, 2011

Greetings everyone,

After a restful hiatus, we bring you great news!

California School for the Deaf, Fremont will soon get a celebrated leader to
replace the retiring Dr. Hank Klopping and coming Monday the candidates for such
position would be revealed and that includes Dr. Reginald Redding who has had an
exciting journey through his life.

Our monthly meetups have resurrected with a blast. Join us on every first and
third Fridays each month in Santa Ana, California.

Our VirtaPay monetizing plan is far exceeding our expectations as dozens of
supporters have bought copies of the ebook "101 Ways To Stop The Money Leak" and
its a valuable resource for our community stakeholders and supporters. You can
access it at https://www.virtapay.com/pay.php?id=ocdac-001&c=1305821805 and if
you don't have a VirtaPay account, sign up at http://www.virtapay.com/r/ocdac
and use the free bonus money to get the ebook for free! It's a win-win
situation for both of us and our readers in these trying times!

Deaf evolution has just made it's latest encroachment. This time it's at the
Illinois School for the Deaf. Illinois governor Mitch Daniels has made
appointments to the school's board thats causing a small outrage and a lot of
debating from all over the United States. Dozens of blog postings and lively
video blog postings are evident. At issue are the appointments of 3 people with
ties to Hear Indiana which is a chapter of the AG Bell Association that has been
despised by the leadership of the sign language minority.

I'm getting some messages that landlords are requiring pet deposits for service
animals. I just want to be clear with everyone that according to Fair Housing
Amendments Act of 1988 (42 U.S.C. 3601, et seq.) Landlords CAN NOT charge you a
pet deposit for the service animal.

And finally, we are almost done putting together a very resourceful booth to be
at the Orange County Fair this summer and I will need your help in keeping our
ebay store up and running while the fair is on and the best way you can help me
out is a small $700 donation to hire someone to man the ebay store while we're
